Unfortunately, we have to announce that one of our veteran players, Howard Fletcher, passed away this morning. Howard had played in the CSBL for many years and was an avid basketball player. He loved the game and loved the League and was a great addition to the league and the camaraderie we all enjoy.

Howard J. Fletcher

Gloversville, NY -- Howard J. Fletcher, 63, of State Highway 29, died Friday, October 18, 2002 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam. He was born May 19, 1939 in Gloversville, the son of Harold and Emma King Fletcher. He graduated from Broadalbin Central School in 1957, and was a co–owner of the former Mid–Valley Oil Company of Amsterdam. The business was sold to Herkimer Petroleum Products, and later sold again to Mohawk Valley Oil Company. Following the sales of the business, Howard continued to work for the new companies, and retired this past December 31 as Division Manager.

Mr. Fletcher was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a founder and member of the Hoot Owl Sportsman's Club, and was active in several basketball programs including the 'Colonie Senior Basketball League'. He played in the state and national Senior Olympic Basketball Games. He was of the Baptist faith.

Howard is survived by his wife of 43 years, the former Mildred “Mickey” Ammerall.

Additional survivors include his four children: John H. Fletcher of Perth, Leea K. Mulone of Scotia, Jill A. Kovalec of Temple, PA; and Erin N. Fletcher of Gloversville; his four sisters, Loretta Baurle and Kathleen Elmore of Johnstown, Patricia Stoutner of Amsterdam, and Gloria Cheney of Broadalbin; his eight grandchildren, Dean Mulone, Meghan Mulone, Katlyn Fletcher, Kristina Fletcher, Camerin Kovalec, Lauren Trojan, Noah Trojan and Jacob Fletcher. He is also survived by his uncle, Woodrow Fletcher, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
