Mike Daggett

6/8/43

Octogenarian-a person age 80-89.  The CSBL Hall of Fame includes a Lifetime Achievement category that recognizes the amazing achievement and longevity of league players who are over the age of 80.  Our octogenarians have defied all odds and remain active and playing in their 80’s. Mike becomes our 6th inductee.  Mike Daggett, 80, not only plays but continues to excel at his craft.  Mike was born and raised in Albany.  He was a standout player at the old Albany Milne High School before playing at Sage Junior College. Mike starred on the basketball team while pursuing his degree in Business.  To no one’s surprise, he holds the Sage single game scoring record of 43 points. Mike has one of the softest, smoothest shots you’ll ever see. Combined with his quick release, his shot is deadly from anywhere on the court. Opponents don’t ever want to give him even a flicker of daylight. He joined the CSBL in 1993 and is #4 on the career 3 point list with 533 made 3 pointers.  His career 80+ % FT accuracy and deadly shot make him a feared clutch shooter.  Mike participates in many state and national senior tournaments.  Mike had a knee replacement this year and makes his season debut in his 30th season this Saturday with Barclay Damon.

After college, Mike worked for General Motors for 3 years before moving on to Higher Education Service Corp for 30 years of service overseeing the college student loan program.  After “retirement,” Mike worked for Ellis Hospital Nursing School for 18 years managing their student financial aid program.  Mike has 3 daughters and 6 grandchildren who all live in this area.  Congratulations Mike and thanks for the many years of thrills watching that sweet jumper tickle the twine.
