September 24. 2003 Ralph F. Cataldo, 61, of Rotterdam, died peacefully at home on September 21, 2003 surrounded by his family and friends. Born in Albany, he was the son of the late Ralph E. and Dorothy Cataldo. He was a graduate of the former Cardinal McClosky High School, and earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Siena College. Ralph went on to receive master’s degrees in both social studies and educational administration from the University at Albany. He served as captain in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 and spent one year overseas in Korea. Ralph dedicated his life to education teaching social studies, and serving as assistant principal at Hackett Middle School for 35 years. Throughout his career he was actively involved in all aspects of the school community, touching the lives of almost four generations of Albanians. He also enjoyed working as a security officer for the State Park Services, and for Macy’s. Ralph was a sports enthusiast, participating in basketball, bowling, and softball leagues, where he made many dear friends. He was also an avid golfer and spent many happy days on the greens with family and friends. Ralph is survived by his beloved wife of 38 years, Maria Weden Cataldo; his devoted children, Christopher Cataldo, Kathleen Rapley, Sean Cataldo, and Heather Cataldo; his adoring grandchildren, Emily, Grace, Connor, Sophie, Isabelle, Donovan, Jeremy, and Evan; his brothers, John, Michael, Paul, Richard and Timothy; and his sister, Christine Maloy. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Weick. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. James Church, 391 Delaware Avenue, Albany. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Daniel Keenan Funeral Home, 490 Delaware Ave., Albany on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment will follow the Mass in Calvary Cemetery, Glenmont.
